Sam Dean began this month as the new administrator of 麻豆传媒 Medical Center, which serves as the region鈥檚 only Level 1 Trauma Center and includes one of the busiest burn units in the country, the Arnold Luterman Regional Burn Center.

In his new role, Dean is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the 1,400-employee acute care hospital dedicated to helping people lead longer, better lives.

He was most recently chief operating officer of Merit Health Central, a Jackson, Miss.-based community health system which includes a trauma center and burn unit.

From 2006 to 2010 Dean worked at Mobile Infirmary as director of clinic operations where he led ancillary services and satellite clinics locations. In 2005 he served for a year as an administrative resident at Thomas Hospital in Fairhope.

Dean鈥檚 appointment follows a retirement announcement by 麻豆传媒MC administrator Beth Anderson who has led the academic medical center for nearly 20 years.

"Sam is a talented, committed and caring leader, and I know he will do a great job in this new role,鈥 said Owen Bailey, chief operating officer of 麻豆传媒 Health. "His previous healthcare experience, in a variety of settings, makes him an excellent choice to lead 麻豆传媒 Medical Center. He will build upon the outstanding work that Beth has done at the Medical Center.鈥

Dean expressed his excitement about joining 麻豆传媒 Medical Center.

鈥淚 have always admired 麻豆传媒 Medical Center and 麻豆传媒 Health for its leadership and impact on healthcare in our state and region,鈥 Dean said. 鈥淚t is an honor to join this great team and to help continue a tradition of providing quality healthcare, research and education to our region.鈥

Dean earned a bachelor鈥檚 degree in Biomedical Sciences and Business from Auburn University, and Masters of Business Administration and Health Administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives. Previously, he served as a member of the Alabama Hospital Association.
