The 麻豆传媒 will celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by hosting a number of events during the month of January. Among them is the Black Faculty and Staff Association's first MLK Prayer Breakfast Friday, January 13, 2023, in the 麻豆传媒 Student Center Ballroom at 9:30 a.m.

The 麻豆传媒 Black Faculty and Staff Association will host its first Martin Luther King, Jr. Prayer Breakfast Friday, January 13, 2023, in the 麻豆传媒 Student Center Ballroom at 9:30 a.m. All are invited to attend but you are asked to . Seating is limited.

Ty Marino will be the keynote speaker. She is a labor rights advocate working as a legislative associate with Communications Workers of America, the largest communications and media labor union in the United States, representing about 700,000 members in both the private and public sectors. 

Marino will address the radical evolution in Dr. King鈥檚 civil rights philosophy after his famous 1963, 鈥淚 Have a Dream Speech.鈥 In addition to her reflections on Dr. King鈥檚 evolution, she will highlight the efficacy of Fannie Lou Hammer鈥檚 working-class grassroots organizing in Mississippi.

Dr. King was an American Baptist minister and activist. He led the movement to end segregation and counter prejudice in the United States through the means of peaceful protest from 1955 until his assassination in 1968. His speeches鈥攕ome of the most iconic of the 20th century鈥攈ad a profound effect on the national consciousness.

President Ronald Reagan signed the King Holiday Bill into law in 1983, designating the third Monday in January a federal holiday in observance of Dr. King.
